Abstract

1321638 Rolling threads RESEARCH ENG & MFG Inc 24 Nov 1970 [17 Dec 1969] 55885/70 Heading B3M [Also in Division F2] A thread-rolling die for making a self-locking bolt has alternating ridges and grooves to form uniform threads on a blank, at the discharge end of the die an insert 56 being secured in the bottom of at least one groove over a length corresponding to at least one thread turn of the bolt, the wall of said at least one groove being cut away at 60 opposite the insert 56, so that as the bolt passes beneath that portion of the die, the crest portion only of the formed thread is deflected away from the bolt head, to effectively tilt it, while the base portion of the thread remains unaffected.
