Abstract

548,516. Self-locking screws. EVERY, C. E. (Illinois Tool Works). Aug. 29, 1941, No. 11085. [Class 89 (i)] Screws have two threaded portions, a leading portion A, Fig. 3 and a locking portion B. The root diameter of the locking portion is greater than that of the leading portion so that a helical surface 16 is formed that spins out the crest of the thread in the nut and causes frictional locking. The locking threads may be relieved laterally as at F, Fig. 7 to accommodate the metal displaced. Self-locking screws may be provided with such locking portions.
