Abstract
563,016. Screw-and-nut mechanism. WANTOCH, F. Dec. 12, 1942, No. 17708. [Class 80 (iii)] [Also in Group XXV] A quick action bolt has the thread 5 interrupted by a series of longitudinal flutes 4 the ends of the threaded segments being blocked by stops 6. A flanged and externally threaded sleeve 2 has internally threaded segments corresponding to the plates 4 and flutes corresponding to the threaded segments 5. A hexagonal or other nut 3 is mounted on the external threads of the sleeve. The sleeve is passed over the bolt, as permitted by the flutes, as far as possible and then a part tube engages the threads until rotation is arrested by the stops, when tightening is completed by turning the nut 3. The flange on the sleeve assists in unscrewing. The stops may be in the sleeve, Fig. 8, instead of on the bolt.
