A nut-and-bolt fastener, e.g. for securing an access-door 10, Fig. 1, of an aircraftstructure 11, comprises a nut-housing 19, containing nut-segments 21, 21a mounted to move laterally to engage with or disengage from a bolt 12 inserted into the housing, and means for positively moving the segments to engage the bolt when the latter is rotated.in the housing. Said means comprises a sleeve 26 engaging a screw 25 connected by tongue 36 and groove 37 to be rotated by bolt 12, and constrained by pin 28 and slot 30 to move axially when the bolt is turned, and having a chamfered-lip 32 for camming the segments inwardly. A sleeve 13 held in the door 10 by spring-ring 14 carries the shear-loads of the joint. The segments may be pivoted to housing-base 18, or located by radialprojections engaging grooves in the base, or have tails 44 44a Fig. 7, engaging longitudinalslots in housing 19. In a modification, to enable the bolt to be tightened in its nut 21, 21a, Fig. 10, to clamp the door 10 to the structure 11, the sleeve-end 31a is dimensioned to slide over the exterior of the assembled segments. In another arrangement, the sleeve-end is formed on a cylinder slidable between the sleeve and the housing, and being engaged by pins extending from the sleeve through slots in both cylinder and housing. In yet another arrangement, the screw 25, Fig. 16, has a flange 25a and is hollow to house a spring 66 urging bolt 12 out of the housing.
