Abstract
685,958. Stays for hinged articles. AUSTERLtd., and SMALL, W. W. Sept. 28, 1951 [Sept. 29. 1950], No. 23837/50. Class 65 (i) In an end-guided stay for a windscreen panel comprising a stay-bar connected to the panel by means of a sleeve which is slidable along a guide on the panel, the sleeve being turnable to lock with the guide by engaging a recess on one part with a projection on the other part, the sleeve is adapted to be turned automatically into a locking position by means of a spring. As shown, a stay-bar 4 is connected by a ball and socket joint, 21, 22 to a bearing 19 for a rotatable sleeve 6 slidably mounted on a guide-bar 7 spacedly fixed to the panel. The guide bar is oval in cross-section and is formed with ribs at the ends of the oval. The bore of the sleeve is also oval and is formed with grooves in the sides of the oval. A spring 25 is adapted to rotate the sleeve for intermeshing the ribs and grooves. A hook-shaped handle 18 is provided on the sleeve for freeing the latter from the guide-bar, a plate 28 serving as a stop, the handle also serving as a fastening for the panel in its closed position. In a modification the rotatable sleeve is connected by a ball and socket joint to the panel and is slidably mounted on the stay-bar, the latter being ribbed for engaging the grooves in the sleeve.
