Abstract

742,903. Latches. NEALE, F. H., and HAWKES, J. A. July 29,1954 [Aug. 31, 1953], No. 23986/53. Class 44. A door fastening comprises a hollow body part 3, a bolt 5 slidable in the body part and notched at opposite sides, a spring 6 for moving the bolt to its extended position, a pair of fittings 8 adapted to be secured to opposite sides of the door, a slidable push piece 9 on each fitting, and an arm 10 pivotally attached to the inner ends of each push piece and having its free end engaged in one of the notches 7 respectively, the arrangement being such that inward movement of either push-piece will effect a retraction of the bolt by the interaction of the free end of the associated arm and a shoulder 5a at the end of the associated notch. The arms extend through slots 3a in the body part 3 and are formed with a T head to prevent withdrawal from the slots. Each arm is kept in contact with its shoulder by a spring 13 between the push-piece and its fitting 8. The bolt is kept from rotation by a pin 11 engaging one of the slots 3a and its head may be tapered and provided with a roller 12 if desired.
