Abstract

846,983. Sliding bolts. CLIFFORD BROS. Ltd., and CLIFFORD, R. Feb. 11, 1959 [Feb. 15, 1958], No. 5008/58. Class 44. In a foot-operated sliding bolt mechanism suitable for use on garage doors, the square or rectangular section bolt is made in two parts 11, 12 having the same crosssection joined by an intermediate stem 14 surrounded by a compression spring 15 which operates between the lower end of the top portion of the bolt 12 and an abutment 16 through which the stem 14 can slide and which is secured in a casing 10 by a' grub screw 17. The portion 12 of the bolt is recessed at 19 to accommodate a detent 20 which is supported on its lower end edge in an undercut in the recess. Fixed to the detent 20 is a raised portion 22 which is adapted to pass through the aperture 18 in the casing and register with the top edge of this aperture, the detent being biased by a spring 23 located in a seating 24 in the recess of the bolt such that the detent will catch in the aperture 18 when the bolt is in the operated position. Heads 13, 25 are attached to the bolt and detent respectively for shooting or releasing the bolt mechanism by means of the foot, the bolt withdrawing under the action of the spring 15 when the detent 20 is released.
