[Class 44] A latch or like fastener comprises a single attachment plate 5, a movable arm 9, disposed on one side of the plate and having a shank 10 extending through a hole 6 in the plate, an integral stop on the shank engaging the other side of the plate to retain the arm in position, and spring means for urging the arm into a terminal position. The spring 14 acts over a dead-centre and stops 16, 17 limit movement of the arm 9 under the action of the spring. The hole 6 has a pair of square recesses 8 formed at opposite ends of a diameter inclined to the axis of the plate. The shank 10 of the arm 9 has complementary projections 11 in line with the arm 9. To assemble the latch, the shank 10 is first passed through the hole 6, the projections 11 passing through the recesses 8, and the arm 9 is turned until the projections 11 engage behind the plate 5. The lug 16 on the plate is then bent up and acts as a stop to prevent the arm 9 being turned to a position where it can be removed from the plate. The spring 14 is hooked into a lug 15 on the plate 5 and a lug 13 on the arm 9. The shank 10 has a square or other non-circular hole 12 for passage of an operating spindle or a removable key. The arm 9 may be cast or die-cast with the shank 10 and lug 13 integral with it and the lugs 15, 16, 17 may be formed separately from the plate 5 and secured in place by welding or riveting.
