[Class 44.] In a fastening for motor-car bonnets of the type comprising a slidable hook 9 carried by the bonnet 3 and adapted to engage a yoke 10, fixed to the chassis, under the action of a compression spring 14, the hook is mounted in a tubular body 1, with integral flanges 2 for attachment to the bonnet, and with a separately formed guide member 16 for the lower end of the hook stem secured therein, the guide having a guide slot engaged by a pin 18 on the hook stem. The body 1 and flanges 2 may be pressed up from a single blank with edges meeting at 7. As shown, the guide member 16 is of tubular form pressed up from sheet metal with an open joint at 17 forming the guide slot for pin 18. A tongue at the lower end of the guide, bent down and secured to the front wall of the body 1 by a rivet 24, has a keyhole aperture the circular part 21 of which guides the stem 11 of hook and the narrow part 22 allows passage of pin 18 in assembling. The stem 11 carries an operating knob 12 with depending sleeve 13 guided in member 1 and enclosing the upper end of the spring 14, the lower end of which bears on a washer 15 abutting against the upper end of guide 16. Upward movement of the hook is limited by projections 26 on the stem which contact with the sides of aperture 21, and slot 17 has a lateral extension 19 into which pin 18 may be turned to retain the hook in the depressed release position. According to the Provisional Specification the separate guide member is in the form of a bridge-piece with its end portions secured to the front wall of the tubular body 1.
