[Class 44.] A fastening for panels and particularly for motor-car bonnets and aircraft engine cowlings consists of a hook 9, formed on a spring-actuated metal strip 8 which is slotted so as slidably to co-operate with a guide on the inside of the panel, and engaging with an inclined keeper 17. The guide may consist of a tongue 6 pressed out of a mounting plate 3 and engaging in the slot 10 in the hook member. The hook is operated by a knob 13 connected to it by a shank which slides in a slot in the plate 3 and serves as an additional guide for the hook. The spring 12 for the hook is attached to lugs 7 and 11 on the plate 3 and the hook member 8 respectively. In a modification, the hook may be depressed by a cam which is turned to engage with the upper end of the hook member which is additionally guided by flanges on the mounting plate. In a further modification, Fig. 4, the hook is operated by a crank arm 27 which is biassed to locking position by a spring 28 connected to the crank and to the hook member. The hook member is guided by the crank spindle and by flanges 22 one of which serves as a stop for the crank arm. The spring 28 serves also to hold the hook in its unfastened position.
