Abstract

408,424. Motor-car bonnet fasteners. BASSICK CO., 38, Austin Street, Bridgeport, Connecticut, U.S.A. Feb. 7, 1933, No. 3689. Convention date, March 2, 1932. [Class 44.] A motor-car bonnet fastening consisting of a rock shaft 34 having cranked ends 39, 40 which engage with inclined keepers 41, 42 is operated by a rotatable crank arm 22 coupled to a V-shaped cranked part 37 of the shaft by a link 27. The movement of the crank arm 22 is limited to 90‹ by stops and in the fastening position, the link 27 is in a dead centre position. The eye 38 by which the link 27 is connected to the shaft 34 is bent out of the plane of the link so that it always exerts a direct pull on the shaft. The crank arm 22 is mounted on a flattened part 21 of a spindle 19 and is retained by a nut 24, the spindle bearing loosely in an aperture in a mounting plate 15 on the bonnet. In the fastened position, the rock shaft is distorted so that it draws the bonnet tightly closed and also exerts a downward pull on the link 27 to tilt the crank arm 22 so that its tail 33 enters a recess between a stop 29 and a ridge 31 and is held fastened. The crank arm 22 is held in the unfastened position by frictional engagement with the ridge 31.
