Abstract
467,207. Hook fastenings. MUNRO, R. M., BINKS, C. L., and AMAL, Ltd. Dec. 13, 1935, No. 34706. [Class 44] A fastening for a motorcar bonnet or the like consists of a hook 2 at the end of a spring-operated slide 5, the spring 15 being stressed by the rotation of a crank-arm 11 having a cam 19 which engages a projection on the slide 5 to move it to the disengaged position. The slide 5 works in guides 6 on a backing plate 7, and the spring 15 is connected between the projection 17 on the slide and the pin 18 on the crank-arm. When the parts 1, 4 are brought together the handle 10 is rotated until the crank reaches the stop 13 and the spring lifts the slide 5 causing the hook 2 to enter the eye 3. To release the fastening the handle is turned in the reverse direction and the cam 19 depresses the slide to disengage the hook 2 ; the disengaging action is assisted by the spring after the dead-centre position has been passed. In a modification the operating handle is disposed centrally with regard to the slide, and the rotating spindle passes through a slot in the slide, the up-and-down movement of the slide being limited by the extent of the slot.
