Abstract

445,361. Sliding bolts. SPEGELSTEIN, S., 84, Wallis Road, Hackney Wick, and COOK, C. H., 196, St. Albans Avenue, Bedford Park, both in London. Oct. 15, 1934, No. 29494. [Class 44] In a sliding-bolt fastening a plate spring is disposed so as to snap behind the tail of the bolt to retain it in shot position, but yield to pressure in withdrawing the bolt. As shown, a flat bolt 6 is slidable in a trough-like casing 1 having inturned side flanges 3 serving to retain the wider portion of a plate-spring 4 which is preferably transversely bowed when in situ, Fig. 2, and serves to guide the bolt. A tongue portion of the spring extends towards the inner end of the bolt and has a stampedup projection 5 engaging behind the bolt tail when shot, Fig. 3. The bolt is operated by a knob 7 with shank 12 riveted or screwed into the bolt and working along a slot 8 in the casing 1, which is fixed by screws passed through apertures 9, one of the screws also passing through a slot 6<1> in the bolt and an aperture 10 in the spring. Modifications are described in which two projections 5 are provided, spaced apart transversely to allow clearance for the inner riveted end of shank 12 and the wider portion of the spring has longitudinal reinforcing ribs. In one of these modifications the bolt end is bent up and provided with a bolt pin 17, Fig. 6.
