In the latch which forms the subject of Specification 952,593 the latch member loading spring is adjustable as to thrust which it exerts on the latch member and is accessible for adjustment through the front plate or equivalent part of the latch case. As shown, an adjusting screw 1, accessible through a front plate 3, includes a smooth stem 9 for a collar 8 on which bears one end of a spring 7, the other end of which abuts a nut 6 which is movable non-rotatably by the screw to thereby adjust the thrust of the collar 8 on the forked end 10 of a lever 11 bearing at its other end against a slide block 14 connected through pivoted links 15 to a latch lever 16.
