Abstract

828,866. Constant force spring units. GENERAL SPRING CORPORATION. April 9, 1957, No. 11550/57. Class 108(3) In a constant support spring hanger the load is attached to the bottom end of a rod 19, Fig. 1, and as it moves downwards a lever 12 is turned anti-clockwise about a pivot 11 to stretch springs 15, Figs. 1, 3. After the lever 12-1 has moved approximately half way from position U to position L, Fig. 1, adjustable nuts 66, Fig. 3, on an eye-bolt 30, which are attached to the lever 12-1, engage a spring nut 61 to bring a first supplementary spring 33 into operation. During the second half of the travel of the lever 12-1 an adjustable nut 72 on ring bolt 70, which is also attached to spring nut 61, engages a spring nut 68 to bring a second supplementary spring 34 into operation. For adjusting the stiffness of the supplementary springs relative to the main springs ring bolts 30, Fig. 3, are pivotally bolted to a slot in an ear 32, Fig. 1, the lever 12-1. The point along the lever 12-2, Fig. 1, through which the load acts may be adjusted by moving a bearing member 16 along notches 60. Spring pivot bolt 13 is adjustable by a screw 21 and a lock nut 22. The supplementary springs 33, 34, Fig. 4, may be adjusted together by screwing nuts 35, 39 along an eye-bolt 29. Adjustment of the angular range of movement is made by turning a turnbuckle 18. To facilitate adjustment scales are provided.
