Abstract
720,075. Pipe supports. GEAIRNS, A. J. E. March 27, 1953. [Dec. 5, 1952] No. 30862/52. Class 99 (2). A member 13 suspended from a bracket 1 is connected to a pipe-line 16 and, e.g. by a roller chain 4, to a spring support device such as a helical spring 6, or a number of springs connected endto-end, surrounding a rod 5 connected to the chain 4 and bearing on cups 7. An auxiliary supporting member 17 also suspended from the bracket 1 is slidably connected, e.g. by an arm 19, to the member 13 and includes means. such as nuts 20, to take the weight of the pipe-line should breakdown of the spring support device occur. The rod 5 may be disposed tangentially to an eccentrically mounted toothed wheel 3 over which the chain 4 passes. The chain may also engage over a jockey wheel 10. The spring 6 may be arranged vertically, as shown, or horizontally. To facilitate compression of the spring 6, a sleeve 5a may be screwed onto the rod 5 and locked in the adjusted position by a nut 8 : a tube 9 may be used to prevent lateral distortion of the coils of the spring. The member 13 may be in two parts connected by a turnbuckle 15 which allows adjustment of the final position of the pipe-line. A removable split tube may be inserted between the stop 19 and the nuts 20 so that the member 17 temporarily supports the pipe-line during erection thereof. Where the device is used to support a pipe-line subject to upward expansion a split sleeve 21 is disposed between the cap 7 pivoted to the bracket 1 and a collar 22 on the rod 5 while adjustment of the spring 6 and turnbuckle 15 is made.
