In a modification of the automatic temperaturecompensated chain tensioning means described in the parent Specification, the lever 2 supporting the chain-tensioning leaf spring 4 is pivoted at B and acts through an adjustable screw C to stress the compensating rod 1 in compression under the influence only of the leaf spring. The arrangement avoids the use of a separate spring acting on the lever 2.
