Abstract

761,819. Catch fastenings. SMITH & DAVIS, Ltd. June 29, 1955 [July 15, 1954], No. 20657/54. Class 44. A spring catch for a door or the like for non- prohibitively retaining the door or the like in a closed position comprises a bolt 15 which is resiliently urged forwardly to an extended position and which includes at its forward or nose end a roller 22 for co-operating with a catchplate or the like, the bolt being formed with a hole or opening 32 which extends rearwardly from the forward or nose end and through which hole or opening a suitable tool can be passed for effecting adjustment of means 27 disposed rearwardly of the forward or nose end and determining the extent to which said forward or nose end of the bolt extends beyond the front of the catch. The bolt is mounted in a body 10 which includes a flat attachment plate 11 provided with holes 12 for attaching the catch to the door and having a hollow cylindrical casing 14 disposed at right angles to the attachment plate and which contains the bolt. The bolt has an end portion 18 of larger diameter than the other end portion 19 to provide a shoulder 20 between which and the rear of the casing is a spring 30. The larger diameter portion 18 is disposed at the front end of the bolt and has two flats to provide sides and is bifurcated to provide two arms 21 between which the roller is mounted. The attachment plate 11 has a non-circular bore 13 which is shaped to receive the roller 22 and arms 21. The portion 19 of the bolt is formed with a bore 25 which contains a screw forming the means 27. The shank of the screw passes through an annular wall 26 at the rear of the bolt and a screwthreaded portion engages a screw-threaded hole 17 in the rear wall 16 of the casing. Thus, rotation of the screw by a screwdriver passed through the holes or opening 32 moves the bolt relatively to the casing to determine the extent to which the roller protrudes through the attachment plate 11. Unwanted rotation of the screw 27 is prevented by a fibre nut 29. The roller is mounted in the arms 21 by a pair of coaxial pins 23 which are rigid with the roller and rotatable in the arms. The roller may be provided with a central annular groove into which the ends of the hole or opening 32 emerge to ensure that the boundary edges of the ends of the hole or opening are not deformed inwardly when the roller engages the catch-plate.
