[Also in Group XXXVI] In a circuit for the measurement of power and standing wave ratios, a coupling unit includes a coaxial loop associated with means adapted to sense the flow in one direction of alternating current in a coaxial cable to which the loop is connected by removing part of the outer insulation from the loop and the cable, and splitting and splicing together their thus exposed metallic braidings. The outer coating of a part of a coaxial line 10, Figs. 5 and 7, small in comparison with the working wavelength is removed and the braiding 11 unpicked to expose dielectric layer 12. A similar coaxial cable 13 forming a loop is similarly prepared, but in addition part of the dielectric 12 is also removed down to the surface of the inner conductor 14, and the two cables are then placed together and their braidings spliced as at 15. The splice may be moulded into a block of thermo-setting resin. In an alternative embodiment a two-part metal block 20, 21 Fig. 10 contains the portions 10a, 13a at the junction of the cables therein and said portions are without the outer covering or the braidings. The braidings of lines extending from the block are fastened by clamps 29.
