Abstract
597,957. Cables. BEXON, W. C. July 7, 1945, No. 17388. [Class 36] The stranded conductor a has insulation b covered by a conductive screen comprising spiral turns of copper &c. foil c partially backed by insulation d so as to provide continuity to the screen, an outer layer of polythene being applied over the backing d and having a coefficient of expansion equal to or less than that of the insulation b. Voids and consequent ionisation are thus prevented. The conductor a and screen c are bonded together to avoid electric stress on the layer b. The insulation b may consist of nylon or of a polythene having a higher coefficient of expansion than the outer layer. A final metal or conductive tape may be applied to ensure adequate earthing and with multi-core cables an encircling earthing tape may also be applied.
