Abstract

705,540. Cables. SIEMENS SCHUCKERTWERKE AKT.-GES. April 9, 1952 [April 12, 1951], No. 9100/52. Class 36. A cable installation comprises a rubber - insulated, multi - core trailing cable having an earth conductor 4 in the form of a mesh or stranded layer of metal wires or strips applied around the insulation 3 enclosing the insulated stranded power conductors 2, and an electrically-conductive screen 6, which is maintained at an auxiliary potential, arranged around but insulated from the earth conductor and surrounded' by an' outer protective jacket 7. The earth conductor 4 may be constructed, at least in part, of wires of high tensile strength, and the gaps between the wires may be filled with conductive rubber, or the conductor 4 may be embedded between two layers of conductive rubber. The conductor insulation 1 is of rubber and may consist of or may have an outer layer 1<SP>1</SP> of ozone-resistant material, or the cores may have a conductive rubber covering. The insulation 5 may also be ozone-resistant and the protective jacket 7 may be of incombustible rubber having a base of polychloro-2-butadiene. The auxiliary voltage impressed on the conductive screen 6 is for the operation of safety devices.
