613,797. Electric cables. COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'ELECTRICITE. July 3, 1946, No. 19951. Convention date, Feb. 25, 1944. Drawings to Specification. [Class 36] A high-tension electric cable having impregnated paper insulation has the paper applied in narrow strips having a maximum thickness of .04 mm., at least in the immediate vicinity of the conductor. The insulation is subjected to a minimum fluid pressure of 5 kgm. per sq. cm. It is stated that the use of thin paper combined with the fluid pressure increases the dielectric resistance of the insulation to current surges, and that the use of narrow strips reduces the risks of the thin paper tearing. Preferably, the paper is from .0015-.0025 mm. thick, from 7-14 mm. wide and the oil pressure is from 10-20 kgm./sq. cm. The outer layers of paper may be thicker and wider and the cable is completed with a fluidtight sheath and armouring in the normal way.
