Abstract
451,195. Cables. OKONITE-CALLENDER CABLE CO., Inc., Paterson, New Jersey, U.S.A. Nov. 26, 1935, No. 32763. Convention date, Nov. 27, 1934. [Class 36] An electric cable for drawing into a pipe line 4 and immersion in an insulating liquid 5 such as oil in the pipe line comprises a conductor 1 having impregnated and laminated insulation 2, e.g. oil-impregnated paper, and wire 3 applied over the insulation. The wire 3 may be bronze or copper and may comprise a number of wires lying side by side and having a relatively long lay or a single wire wound with a short pitch. Magnetic material may be used for the covering wires in which case they are insulated. The wire covering contacts with the pipe substantially along the whole length of the conductors, and the three conductors shown may lie directly against the pipe. Electrostatic shielding is provided by the wire covering which also facilitates drawing the cable into the pipe line. The cable may be enclosed in a temporary lead sheath which is removed before the cable is drawn into the pipe line.
