Abstract
291,625. Callender's Cable & Construction Co., Ltd., and Bryce, S., J. June 24, 1927. Cables, arrangement and disposition, of parts of; cores for cables cables with auxiliary conductors. - A flexible, trailing cable comprises a central earth core A having a pliable centre A<1> of rubber. bitumen &c., enclosed in metal wrapping A<2>, preferably formed of braided copper wires. The core A is then pressed to such shape that when the phase cores B are laid up round it, the core A will embrace a considerable arc of each core B. A pilot C may also be laid up round the core A. The cores B each comprise tinned copper conducting wires B' with insulation B<2> enclosed in a sheath B<3> of braided tinned copper wires and an outer rubber sheath B<4>. The sheaths B<3> and the wrapping A<2> are bonded together at the cable ends. The pilot C comprises tinned copper wires C',. insulation C<2>, a braided copper sheath C<3>, and a rubber sheathing C<4>. Instead of a pilot C. a longitudinally extensible conductor may be embedded in the centre of the core A.
