Abstract

Cores for cables; cables, arrangement and disposition of parts of; cables with auxiliary condensers. -In cables of the kind comprising a plurality of cores composed of an inner conductor and an outer metal sheathing insulated therefrom, the sheathed cores are spaced apart by longitudinally extending pads of suitable insulating material. Fig. II shows one construction in which the dual power cores 2, consisting of an inner conductor 2<c>, insulation 2<b> and outer metal sheathing 2<a> are separated by pads 4 and are disposed around a centrally disposed earthing conductor 3 which may also be of dual construction. In this arrangement, the sheaths of the power cores and of the earthing conductors are in contact and form therewith a return for the earth current. Fig. IV shows an alternative construction, in which the earthing conductor is solid and a check earth core 9 is provided in one of the spacing pads. In the arrangement shown in Fig. III, two of the power cores 2 are arranged with their sheaths in contact with each other and the earth core 5 and spaced by a pad 6 from the third power core 2<d>, the sheath of which acts as a pilot earth conductor. In. this arrangement, an additional insulating covering 7 is provided for the core 2d. In all the arrangements shown, the metal sheaths may consist of a series of wire cords, each consisting of a group of spirally twisted strands, spirally twisted in one direction around the core.
