Cables of special cross-section; armouring cables. - In multi-core cables of the type not surrounded by a common lead sheath, the common protective layers are made non-circular to conform closely to the outer surfaces of the conductors. Fig. 1 shows a cable comprising insulated conductors K<1> - - K<4> covered with lead sheaths p<1> - p<4>, respectively. Fillers z<1> - -z<4> are placed between the cores and the common protective layers s<1> - -s<3> of jute, iron tape, or flat wire which are of the non-circular section shown. Fig. 3 shows a lead covered two-conductor power cable combined with a telephone cable. The conductors k<1>, k<2> of the power cable are formed with insulation i<1>, i<2>, respectively, and are sheathed in a common lead covering p'. The telephone cable t, has a lead sheath p<2>, and a common non-circular protective layer s surrounds the whole cable as shown.
