Abstract

422,733. Conductors. LONDON ELECTRIC WIRE CO. & SMITHS, Ltd., and WILDY, E. L., 7, Playhouse Yard, Golden Lane, London. Nov. 21, 1933, No. 32465. [Class 36] To prevent corrosion of the stranded steel core 1 of an overhead conductor, the copper, aluminium or other conducting strands 3 are separated from the core by a tape 2 which is wrapped around the core and consists of a material having moisture resisting and insulating properties. The tape is preferably of fibrous material impregnated with a bituminous or asphaltic compound, such as ozokerite, gilsonite, or stearine pitch ; or the tape may be impregnated with enamel or a cellulose compound. The impregnation of the tape 2 may be effected either before or after the winding of the tape on the core. The spaces between the strands of the core 1 may be filled with a material 4, such as bitumen, having moisture resisting properties.
