Abstract
492,279. Cables. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., and ROBINSON, F. E. March 16, 1937, No. 7683. [Class 36] A flexible cable having air-space insulation comprises a conductor 3 centred within a braided or other flexible outer conductor or screen 2 by a winding 1 of insulating-material, such as the material known under the Registered Trade Mark " Trolitul," the ends of the cable being closed by insulating plugs 4 inserted within the outer conductor or screen to abut against the insulating winding and having central apertures 5 through which the conductor 3 projects. The external diameter of the insulating winding, which is preferably formed as a multiple start winding, is substantially the same as the internal diameter of the outer conductor or screen. The ends of the outer conductor or screen may be secured to the plugs 4 by wire bindings 6 and solder 7. In making the cable the insulating-material is wound on a wire core and the outer conductor or screen is then drawn over the winding and core, after which the central conductor is attached to one end of the core and drawn into the insulating winding by withdrawing the wire core. The plugs 4 are then inserted and bound in position.
