Abstract

720,134. Wire terminals. AIRCRAFTMARINE PRODUCTS, Inc. Nov. 18, 1952 [Nov. 19, 1951], No. 29099/52. Class 38 (1). A terminal connector comprising a ferrule 12, Fig. 1, and a connector portion 14 has an insulating sleeve 16 surrounding the ferrule and cemented thereto. The sleeve has a widened portion 18 beyond the ferrule in which is cemented a metal band 20 adapted to be crimped with the sleeve onto the insulation of a wire when the ferrule 12 is crimped onto the core of the wire. The band 20 may extend out of the sleeve 18 and be bent back along the outside thereof, Fig. 2 (not shown). Fig. 3 shows a modification wherein a plain tubular insulating sleeve 18b is..employed with a seamless copper sleeve 28 located between sleeve 18b and ferrule 12. The band 20b, shown inside sleeve 18b, may be located outside the sleeve or where a shielded conductor is employed, Fig. 3b, with outer insulation 60, a stepped band may be used having a portion secured inside sleeve 18b and an external portion 38 of larger diameter adapted to be crimped to insulation 60. In a further modification, Fig. 6, applicable to shielded conductors, a metal sleeve 28d engages the outside of ferrule 12 and sleeve 18d, and the band 20d is secured to the outside of sleeve 18d and extends round the conductor shield 56. Where the conductor is composed of several coaxial layers the sleeve 18 and/or the band 20 may be stepped to secure successive layers, or a larger band of metal or sleeve of insulation, Fig. 8 (not shown), can have one end secured to a connector as above and its other end adapted to receive one of the layers. Specifications 569,366, 585,507, 613,013 and 673,198 are referred to.
