Abstract

691,157. Wire terminals; sleeve couplings; conductors. AIRCRAFT - MARINE PRODUCTS, Inc. June 5, 1951 [Oct. 26, 1950], No. 13279/51. Classes 36 and 38 (i). A solderless connector for connection to a stranded wire 3, e.g. of aluminium, comprises a ferrule 8 in which is positioned a resilient core 26, e.g. of nylon having a greater resiliency than the ferrule so that when the latter is crimped on to the wire the core 26 is also compressed and on release of the crimping pressure maintains the wire and ferrule in good contact. In Fig. 3, the core has a head 28 around which one end of the ferrule is crimped to form a seal, the other end of the ferrule carrying a metal sleeve 18 having a plastic liner 24 which on crimping of the sleeve on to the insulation 4 of the wire, also forms a seal. Sleeve 18 may be continued inside the ferrule as a continuous thimble, Fig. 7 (not shown), against the closed end of which the head 28 abuts. Fig. 8 shows a ferrule 8B forming a double-ended connector for joining two wires, a head 28B carrying two oppositely directed cores 26B being crimped centrally of the ferrule, the outer ends of the latter carrying sleeves 18B with insulating liners 24B. The core may be. inserted into the wire immediately before introducing the wire into the ferrule or the wire may be constructed with a core 26D, Fig. 11, running throughout the length thereof. Specifications 585,507, 585,533, [Group XXIII], 620,561 and 673,198 are referred to.
