Abstract

Electric cables with conductors surrounded by wires for supporting traction loads where the tensile wires comprise a twisted annular array covered by a helically wound tape secured by a melt adhesive and enclosed by an extruded seamless metal sheath. Used for suspended power or telecommunication cables, esp. where the sheath enclosing the conductive cores is surrounded by a conductive screen. Electrical continuity outside the core insulation avoids generation of damaging potentials within the sheathing layers due to e.g. inductive effects, lightning strikes, etc. The tensile wires are well protected from casual damage, weathering or corrsion.
