Abstract
621,632. Electric cables. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and LEE, E. C. Aug. 23, 1946, No. 25224. [Class 36] An electric cable has insulating wrappings 2 (preferably of paper) applied longitudinally in strips of such a width that there is a gap between the edges of each strip, successive strips being applied so that the gaps do not coincide. The central conductor 1 is supplied with strips 3 of insulation from rolls 4. The insulation is lapped around the conductor by. means of dies 6. An outer conductor 7 of soft copper tape is applied in the same manner as the insulation, the edges of which may meet or overlap if desired. Holes may be provided in the outer conductor to allow subsequent impregnation. Further insulation 10 and a lead sheath 11 complete the cable. The paper wrappings 3 and the soft copper conductor 7 may be applied with a helical lay of more than six inches. Specification 603,738 is referred to.
