Abstract

781,129. Cable joints. PIRELLI SOC. PER AZIONI. Aug. 25, 1955 [Sept. 14, 1954], No. 24448/55. Class 38 (1). In a single (or multi) branch joint for hightension cables, the connector 1 between the cores is embedded in a mass 3 of cast or moulded insulating plastic which adheres intimately to the surface of the connector. The plastic is preferably a synthetic resin such as ethoxylene. Hand-applied tape insulation 2 covers the joints between the cores and the connector, and screens 4 are applied over this insulation, the surfaces 5 of the plastic 3 being rendered conductive to connect the screens, e.g. by spraying with metal or coating with conducting varnish. Alternatively a suitably shaped metal screen may be applied. An outer metal joint casing 6 is applied over the screens.
