Abstract

733,178. Cables. DEAN, J. N. July 27, 1953 [July 29, 1952], No. 19143/52. Class 36. A submarine signalling cable comprises a central conductor C having air space or solid homogeneous insulation 1 therearound and an outer tube 2 of lightweight metal having suitable electrical, mechanical and anti-corrosion properties so that it may act simultaneously as the outer conductor and armouring of the cable. The insulation 1 may be of the form described in Specification 622,247. The tube 2 may be of an aluminium-magnesium alloy, and may be applied to the cable core by the method described in Specification 627,815. The inner conductor C may be of the same metal or alloy as the tube 2, and a layer of copper or other highly conductive tape may be provided between the insulation 1 and tube 2.
