[Class 36] The sheathing of a cable, such as a submarine cable, aerial cable or trunk communication cable for the transmission of high-frequency currents, comprises polystyrol strings or bands twisted around the insulated core. The sheathing may also comprise wires, bands or threads of metals or alloys such as bronze on non-magnetic iron alloys. The flexibility of the polystyrol may be increased by stretching or by the incorporation of tricresyl phosphate. Connector sleeves and Pupin coil boxes may also be formed of polystyrol. A trunk communication cable may, for instance, comprise an insulated core covered with a lead sheath 1, rubber jacket 2, jute 3, polystyrol 4, and jute 5 ; or, the jute layers may be omitted.
