[Class 40 (iv)] A single core submarine cable 10 terminates near the shore in lengths of spiral quad, two preferably opposite conductors 11, 12 being connected to the main core and the other two conductors 13, 14 forming the sea-earth line. These end sections may be unloaded or lightly loaded. Intermediate sections of stranded pair or coaxial conductors, the outer being insulated, may be interposed between the main cable and the end sections, one conductor being connected to the main core and the other forming part of the sea-earth line.
