Abstract
498,142. Cables. CALLENDER'S CABLE & CONSTRUCTION CO., Ltd., HILL, H., and ROSE, T. B. July 8, 1937, No. 19008. [Class 36] A conductor of non-circular shape for an electric cable comprises a number of component conductors which are formed by stranding wires together and have shapes such that when they are assembled together they enclose a duct extending longitudinally of the conductor and fit into each other in a self-supporting manner so that no internal supporting hollow core member is required. In the Figure, the conductor has a duct 5 and is built into an elliptical shape by means of components A B C and D. The components are made by stranding together wires (which may be of different diameters) and they are held together by the layer 2 of wires applied helically, or by a single wire. The component conductors may lie parallel with the axis of the conductor or they may be stranded together, and they may be prespiralled before being stranded together with a lay equal to the stranding lay, Three such conductors with their insulation may be combined in one sheath and the component conductors may be prespiralled with a lay equal to that of the cabling lay.
