Abstract

844,158. Casting concrete blocks. WILSON'S CAVICRETE Ltd. May 21, 1957 [May 30, 1956], No. 16692/56. Class 87(2). [Also in Groups X and XXIII] A concrete block comprising a plurality of spaced slabs 10-12 connected by reinforced concrete tie members 13 having their ends embedded in the outside slabs 10, 12 is cast in a collapsible multiple mould made of pressed metal. Firstly, a concrete mix is cast into the bottom of each mould, then a wire netting reinforcement 17 is laid on this layer, and a further concrete layer is cast to complete the lower slab. A deck comprising two rectangular plates positioned edge-to-edge and provided with apertures along their contiguous edges is then erected in the mould at a distance above the lower slab. Tie members 13 are inserted in the apertures and pushed into the lower slab. A second slab with or without wire netting reinforcement is cast on this deck, and one or more further slabs may be cast on further identical decks. To provide for steam circulation the end members of the multiple mould have cocks and the side members have openings. The upper slab is provided with a terazzo or quasihewn stone surface finish by applying granular material unevenly on the soft concrete. The bottom members of the mould have polished upper surfaces to provide the lower slab with a smooth face. In certain zones of the lower slab, the concrete mix is replaced by a cementitioussawdust mix of a contrasting colour to form nailable portions in the slab.
