Abstract

358,207. Composite building blocks; walls ; moulds. GARSIDE, S., Oak Bank, Grasmere, Westmorland. Aug. 22, 1930, No. 25080. [Classes 20 (iv) and 87 (i).] A building block is built up of slabs a of rough, undressed stone in layers bound together with just sufficient cement or mortar a2 to hold the stone in position, the edges of the slabs projecting to a considerable extent on the front face to mask the binding material to simulate dry or rubble walling. The slabs of stone used may be obtained from the waste tips of slate quarries. The blocks may be cast in a mould having sloping sides held together by rods and wing nuts and strengthened by battens. The blocks are thus sloped down from back to front to enable water to run off the projecting pieces of slate. The ends of the blocks may be cast with reveals or tongues and grooves.
