Class 120(2) In electrically-driven spinning &c. frames which change automatically from a lower to a higher operating speed when the initial stage of the spinning and like cycle is completed, the change is effected automatically by switch means actuated by a member which moves in a linear direction in accordance with the rotation of a ratchet wheel shaft of the builder motion. A ratchet 11 is operated by a pawl each time a builder-motion lever 10 moves downwardly; the shaft on which the ratchet is mounted is flexibly coupled to a coarse-threaded spindle 15 along which a threaded bush 18 is constrained to move as spinning proceeds. The bush carries an adjustably mounted member 20 which for a desired period engages a switch 23. The switch is of the change-over microtype and controls main contactors in circuit with two induction motors, one of which is slower than the other and operates while the switch is engaged by the member 20. In other forms, a single change-pole induction motor may be used, a second member may be provided where a slower speed also is required towards the end of the cycle, the spindle 15 may be replaced by a worm meshing with a worm-wheel carrying a crank linked to a slider carrying the members which operate the switch, and the apparatus may be mounted on the builder-motion lever and be driven directly by the shaft of the ratchet-wheel.
