[Also in Group XXIV] The movement of the cross-slide 80 of a copying lathe is accomplished by a mechanical servo device c (see Group XXIV). The servo device is constantly driven by a motor M, mounted on the slide 80, and has an output pinion 95 engaging a rack 96 on the saddle 81 and rotating in correspondence with the rotation of a control shaft 40. A follower 85 engaging the pattern-plate N makes switch contacts 90, 91 to energize a reversible electric motor M<SP>1</SP> and rotate the control-shaft 40 in an appropriate direction. The tool T thus follows the contour of the plate N.
