753,095. Copy-milling. KEARNEY & TRECKER CORPORATION. July 15, 1954, No. 20680/54. Class 83 (3). A tracer mechanism, for a reproducing machine having a cutter-support 34 and a worksupport 25 movable in transverse directions, comprises a tracer-shaft 83 mounted on the cutter support and which, by its rotational movement, controls the relative movement of the supports, a stylus 49 secured to the tracershaft so that it contacts the pattern in advance of the corresponding point of contact of the cutter with the work, and power-means 86 to rotate the shaft in response to the contour of the pattern to maintain the direction of the advance substantially in the direction of cutter travel. The machine is as described in Specification 741,402. If there are no abrupt changes in the pattern, the electrical control circuit may be modified to cause the motor 86 always yieldably to urge the tracer against the pattern, instead of oscillating it, so' that no reversal of the motor is necessary.
