845,153. Electric copying - machines. BROWN, BOVERI & CIE A.G. May 23, 1958 [May 25, 1957], No. 16606/58. Class 38 (6). The switch-actuating feeler for a 3- dimensional copying-machine consists of a central probe for maintaining the tool in contact with the work, and a concentric ring, universally pivoted, for controlling movement along the other two axes. The central probe 5 is slidably mounted in the front endplate of the feeler housing (not shown) and operates a switch 11 by a bellcrank 8. The probe 5 is urged forward by a compression-spring 13 and carries a disc 6 of the same diameter as the cutting-tool. Behind the disc 6 a concentric ring 19 is mounted in gimbals on the probe 5 and has three equally-spaced pegs, e.g. 21, projecting beyond the disc 6. The ring 19 is coupled by three push-rods, e.g. 23, to a similar ring 28 in the rear part of the housing. Ring 28 carries two projections 30, 30<SP>1</SP> spaced 90 degrees apart which operate pairs of switches 31, 31<SP>1</SP> and 32, 32<SP>1</SP> in respect of movements along the axes indicated. In order to vary the sensitivity of the controls, all switches are mounted on screwed rods, e.g. 37, with adjusting knobs, e.g. 38, so as to be movable with respect to the fulcrum of their operating levers.
