Abstract

924,445. Automatic tobacco control. INDUSTRIAL NUCLEONICS CORPORATION. June 1, 1961 [June 8, 1960], No. 19878/61. Class 38 (4). [Also in Groups XXXVI and XL (b)] In a cigarette making machine employing a revolving knife 16 to remove excess tobacco from a stream, as described in Specification 924,583, the quantity of tobacco in the supply stream 12 is controlled in accordance with the excess 28 which is removed, instead of by the knife position. The excess may be measured by one of a variety of devices, namely, by variation in capacitance between a plate 50 and conducting rings on the carded drum 30, by varying interruption of a light beam falling on a photoelectric cell, by a radiation device as described in U.S.A. Specification 2,895,888 or by mechanical feelers. Specifications 887,267, 887,268 and 887,271 also are referred to.
