Abstract
1,243,920. Clutch control; tooth gearing. DIESELMOTORENWERK ROSTOCK VEB. 1 Oct., 1969, No. 48252/69. Headings F2L and F2Q. [Also in Division H2] A control for moving a driving pinion 8 into mesh with a driven pinion 11 comprises a switch 13 which stops the axial sliding motion of the pinion 8 if the teeth of the latter do not slide precisely into mesh with the teeth of the pinion 11, rotates the pinion 8 until the teeth slide into mesh and thereafter stops the rotation and continues the sliding movement of the pinion 8. As shown, an electric motor 15 drives the carrier 19 of a planet gear having planet pinions 20 meshing sun gears 21, 22 respectively connected to a shaft 7 through a screw and nut connection 4 and splines 9. The shaft 7 and pinion 8 are moved axially by engaging a brake 24 which holds the sun gear 22 and the shaft 7 and pinion 8 are rotated by engaging a brake 25 which holds the sun gear 21. Operation.-With a master switch 1 closed depression of a switch 2 completes the circuit to a relay 23 which starts the motor 15 and completes the circuit to the brake 24 which holds the sun gear 22 to effect axial sliding of the shaft 7. A switch-operating linkage 12 fast with the pinion 8 closes a switch 14 on initial sliding of the pinion 8 to maintain the relay 23 and brake 24 energized after release of the switch 2. If the teeth of the pinion 8 abut the teeth on the pinion 11 the shaft 7 moves relative to the pinion 8 against the bias of a spring 10 to change over the switch 13 which breaks the circuit to the brake 24 and completes the circuit to the brake 25 whereafter the pinion 8 is rotated until its teeth slide between the teeth of the pinion 11 under the action of the spring 10. This sliding of the pinion 8 relative to the shaft 7 changes the switch 13 back to the position shown to de-energize the brake 25 and re-energize the brake 24 whereupon the pinion 8 is slid completely into mesh with the pinion 11. When the pinion 8 reaches the end of its movement the linkage 12 changes over the switch 16 to de-energize the brake 24 and energize the brake 25 whereupon the motor 15 rotates the pinion 8. To stop the drive a switch 17 is depressed to break the circuit to the brake 25 and to re-energize the brake 24 and slide the pinion 8 out of mesh with the pinion 11. Lamps 26, 27, 28 indicate when the brakes are energized and the master switch is closed. A reversing circuit is provided for the motor 15 to reverse its direction of rotation. In Fig. 1 (not shown) two separate electric motors are provided one of which slides the shaft 7 and pinion 8 axially whilst the ether rotates the shaft and the control circuit directly energizes the first motor to effect axial sliding of the pinion and the second motor to rotate the pinion.
