Abstract
921,487. Control of motors. FISHER SCIENTIFIC CO. May 12, 1961 [Sept. 8, 1960], No. 17382/61. Class 38 (3). [Also in Group XXIV] To remove the effects of backlash in an electrically driven gear drive comprising a lead screw and nut, e.g. in automatic titration apparatus, a microswitch operated by the nut at one end of its travel first reverses the electric drive and then, after the slack has been taken up, stops it, ready for the next operating cycle. As shown, the drive comprises two motors 18 and 19, one for each direction of rotation, but it is stated that a single reversing motor may be used. With the switches in the positions shown, motor 18 is energized through relay contacts 30c from a supply 28. At the end of its travel the nut changes over microswitch 16, thus energizing relay coil 30 and de-energizing a second relay 31. This results in the disconnection of motor 18 and the energization of motor 19, causing the nut to move away from the microswitch which returns to the position shown. The circuit for motor 19 is thus broken until a selector switch 29 is changed over to re-establish it and so run the nut to the other end of its travel. In this direction the drive is normally stopped by switch 29, but a safety limit switch 17 is provided. A further gear train 26, 27 drives a recording or other mechanism.
