Abstract

733,730. X-ray apparatus. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. May 13, 1953 [May 15, 1952], No. 13367/53. Class 98 (1). Apparatus including a movable X-ray tube has a safety circuit the current in which is controlled by movement of the X-ray tube and renders the X-ray tube inoperative when this movement ceases. As shown, an X-ray tube 5 is mounted for rotation on an arm 6, which is movable horizontally in a bracket 7 slidable on a column 17. Switches 4 of a kind which are open while rotating and closed when stationary are mounted to be rotated by the three components of the tube movement, and are connected to three relays 14 operating contacts 20 in the circuit of the X-ray tube. When the switches are open relays 14 are de-energized and contacts 20 are closed, but when one of the movements of the tube stops, the associated switch closes to energize the relay and open one of the contacts 20 so that the tube 5 cannot be energized. Where the tube has a reciprocating movement, the switches may be rendered inoperative at the moment of change of direction, or the relays may be slow-acting. In another example, a disc driven by an electric motor has a spindle mounted thereon. An electric motor moves the spindle longitudinally at right-angles to the disc, and the X-ray tube is mounted on the spindle. The shaft of each motor carries a magnet which, when rotated, generates current in a coil to energize a relay to close a contact in the X-ray tube energization circuit.
