[Class 40 (i)] [Also in Group XXXVII] In follow-up system for moving a regulator for an electric motor to a position corresponding to that of a. manual controller and including a pilot motor driving the regulator, a controller in two parts, one of which is driven by the pilot motor, and a handle which can move the two parts of the controller relatively to each other to set the pilot motor in motion, the handle can also be moved relatively to the two parts of the controller to control the circuit for switching the main motor on and off. The handle may be movable in two different planes. In Fig. 1 the casing 6, enclosing the controller, can be turned by handle 15 about the shaft 4 driven by the regulator. Depression of knob 18 against the spring 17 engages the locking bolt 16 in a hole in the plunger 13. Movement of the handle 15 about pivot 21 then moves plunger 16-against one of the springs 14 and 14<1>-until contact 11 engages fixed contacts to control the starting of the main motor. The same movement raises or lowers the ward 27 so that it can enter guideway 23 or 24 in a fixed stop ; this allows the handle and casing to turn about shaft 4, until contacts 30 and 31 engage the contact 32 carried by the arm 33 secured to the shaft 4, thereby starting the pilot motor (not shown), which drives the regulator and the shaft 4 until the contact 32 separates from contacts 30 and 31. Release of the knob 18 frees the plunger 13 and switches off the main motor ; the bolt 16 cannot be re-engaged with plunger 13 until the casing has been returned to its " off " position and the handle 15 turned about pivot 21, back to its mid-position in which it is located by spring catch 19. When the casing is turned back towards' the "off" position, contacts 28 and 29 engage the contact 32 to start the pilot motor for driving the regulator in the reverse direction. The motion of the casing is limited by the dog 37 thereon moving in a fixed slot 37a. Limit switches limit the motion of the regulator.
