Abstract

488,722. Metal working presses. CURRAN, J., and CURRAN & CO., Ltd., E. Jan. 16, 1937, No. 1400. [Class 83 (iv)] In a press operated by rack-andpinion, the drive is obtained from a motor generator set supplying current to an electric motor and operating according to the Ward - Leonard system. As shown, a reversing electric motor 2 is supplied with current from a generator driven from a motor supplied with current from a suitable supply system. A reduction gearbox 3 is interposed between the motor 2 and a pinion 4 driving a toothed wheel 5, on the shaft of which is a pinion 6. The pinion drives racks 7, 7<1>, the former of which has an extension 8 carrying adjustable stops 9 and an index scale 11. The stops alternately engage a trip member 13 having an arm 15 attached to a link 16 actuating a reversing switch in the field circuit of the Ward-Leonard generator to reverse the rotation of the motor 2. In a single plunger press the Ward-Leonard system may be modified to the Ilgner system.
