Abstract

593,556. Reverse gear. MABEY, A. G. June 5, 1945, No. 14157. [Class 80(ii)] In a sliding bevel reverse gear, the operating lever is arranged to free a clutch during the change of direction. Operation of a lever 21 slides the bevel pinions 16, 17 axially on shaft 13 to engage selectively with driving bevel 12 for forward or reverse motion. As lever 21 is moved, roller 22 moves along plate 25 to depress plunger 23 and thus withdraw clutch member 34 through bell crank 26, link 29 and yoke 30. Bevel 12 is driven from driving shaft 1 by bevels 6, 7 and spur gears (not shown) which may form a reduction gear. An alternative method of depressing plunger 23 may comprise a toothed rack and segment mechanism.
